(HE/HIM)

MUSIC DIRECTOR

Jimmy has been serving the church as a pianist, violinist, organist, and singer, since he was 11. A son of a former lead pastor at a Methodist church in Jakarta (where he grew up), he believes that music can be used for healing, as well as a tool for social change. After earning his degree at Berklee College of Music, he continues sharing his love of music by being vocal/choral teacher for several schools in the Boston/Cambridge area, while living with his husband in the city. Through music, he hopes to provide a universal space for people of various backgrounds to be and feel welcomed at the crossing.

Jimmy is back! Come worship with him!

(SHE/HER)

PRIEST AND LEAD ORGANIZER

Liberation theology developed my commitment to social justice. Radical Roman Catholic nuns showed me how to make these ideals a reality. Girl Scouts built my arts and crafts skills and repertoire of goofy songs. I bring over 30 years of professional training and experience as a youth worker and community organizer to the position of Pastor and Lead Organizer with The Crossing.

I have worked with St. Stephen's Youth Programs, the Boston Youth Organizing Project, and have taught community organizing to graduate students at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, undergraduates at Stonehill College, and high schoolers in various organizations throughout Massachusetts. I also work as the Parent Engagement Organizer with AFT, a labor union.

I am a graduate of Colgate University and Harvard Divinity School. My family includes two teens, one an aspiring actor and the other a future professional baseball player. We live in Roslindale, where we connect with our community at farmer's markets, the Arnold Arboretum, and Boston Public School events.

THE Rev. LIZ STEINHAUSER

Leadership Council

We're a crew who handle things like budget, development, staffing, and big-picture community vision. Council is compromised of the priest, treasurers, at-large members (elected at our annual meeting). We meet once a month for 2 hours to build relationships, pray for the community, hold big-picture visioning and administrative tasks, and practice living out our values. We bring all our proposals back to the congregation and a broader leadership team, Scrum, for more input and approval. Email the council here.

Rebecca Spangler (She/They)

I have been a member of the Crossing since last year, and started on Council this year. I love getting to know people.  I am the Chapter Rep for the Cathedral, and I am on the Racial Equity team, and I write poetry. I can be reached at spanglerrebecca04@gmail.com

Milly Schmid (she/they)

Co-treasurer

I love and believe in the mission of the crossing to bring together folks of all different spiritual backgrounds and accept them as they are, welcome them to change our community, and to grow together in our love for ourselves, our world, and the divine. I love the arts; high brow, low brow, folk, fine, and everything in between. I write plays and lesson plans and dance and make collages, but I’ll try anything creative I can get my hands on. I believe budgets are moral documents and I have a background in arts administration so I am excited to bring that experience to the table as co-treasurer.

JT Minor (he/him)

I became a member of the crossing in 2022 seeking something that I wasn’t seeing in most worship communities, and boy did I find! The commitment here to make a home for all those who walk this life is unlike anything I’ve ever seen before! And yet, rings so refreshingly true to the Gospel. I’m a solider in the Massachusetts Army National Guard (paper work and playing the drums…ask me about it!) boating fanatic, music lover, AVID gamer and SiFi geek. Let’s get to know each other! You can find me at john.minorperc@gmail.com

Michaye Ledford (they/them)

Hey y'all! After searching for a space to be wholly Christian and wholly Queer, I found it in the Crossing in 2020, and have been a member ever since. I love the Crossing's mission of radical welcome, where we are empowered to be a changing community... and I also just love hanging out with the people of the Crossing. Outside of the Crossing, I knit/crochet, read, write, drink an obscene amount of Earl Grey tea, and am a cat parent to Zella (tortie) and Lester (fluff). I can be found at michaye.ledford@gmail.com

Anthony Bau (he/him)

Co-treasurer

I began attending the Crossing in 2022 after I graduated from school, looking for an open, progressive Christian space to call home. I love that the Crossing makes an effort to be a space for absolutely anyone not just to be welcomed but to belong, and how diverse this community is in how each of us engages with faith. I'm currently one of our co-treasurers. I can be reached at dab1998@gmail.com.

WORSHIP CIRCLE

We plan the structure and content of our weekly Thursday night Worship. We strive for creative liturgy that speaks real life into ancient practices.

The worship circle meets once a month for 1.5 hours to build our relationships with one another and to dream, scheme, coordinate, and follow through with our worship planning.

This team is always looking for new folks. Let us know if you want to get involved.

Community CIRCLE

We are committed to caring for and forming our community faithfully. We believe that community deepens in “out-of-worship” experiences. We form small groups to deepen those relationships; we focus on welcoming our newcomers, hosting events, and providing hospitality, making sure that all feel radically welcomed to the crossing. Sometimes this looks like getting a private note in worship welcoming you to the crossing, sometimes it looks like moving the community into racial justice action.

This team is always looking for new folks. Let us know if you want to get involved.
